Are You Trying To Be Creative In Your Business?

Mindset

Creative talentMy very first job after dropping out of school was in the theatre.

I was the student assistant stage manager, at the time when the title was no longer officially recognised.

For the director, I was cheap labour.

Of course I didn’t know my title was meaningless. I was happy to be working in the arts.

I didn’t bring any creative talent to the productions. I left that to the director, the actors, the set designer and the lighting designer.

I was the gopher, the dogsbody who worked 18 hour days…for the love of it.

One of the definitions of creativity in my well-thumbed dictionary states…

creative: characterized by originality of thought; having or showing imagination…

I seem to remember when I was a child and into my very early teens, creating “drama”. But if I’m honest with myself, I think I was probably very heavily “influenced” (read, copied) by others.

Therefore the “drama” probably wasn’t that original.

Often, creative talents are suppressed because they aren’t felt appropriate to the time and place.

I don’t think we lose the talent, but if you don’t use it, I believe the innate talent fades.

Nowadays I see many people trying to bring back from the depths of time their fading creative talent with their online business.

They are looking to create new ways of making money online, new ways of building a list of subscribers and of driving traffic to their websites.

There are a very small number of people who have retained their creative talents, allowing them to see greater potential in a particular situation and set new standards.

Consider these people for a moment…

  • Doctor John Pemberton
  • Asa Candler
  • Richard and Maurice McDonald
  • Ray Kroc

Doctor John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia invented Coca Cola on May 8, 1886.

But it was Asa Candler who, having bought the formula in 1888, made millions of dollars through his aggressive marketing.

Richard and Maurice McDonald started a barbecue restaurant in 1940.

But it was Ray Kroc, joining the company as a franchise agent in 1955 and later purchasing the McDonald brothers’ equity in the company, who led its worldwide expansion.

Those two individuals saw the greater potential by using their creative business talents.

Unless you do have that creative business talent, you don’t have to be the next Asa Candler or Ray Kroc.

With so many people enjoying success with their online businesses, all you have to do is copy what they are doing.

And if you want greater success than they have, put in that little bit more effort.

McDonald’s is based on the franchise model, which is an expensive investment for the new business owner.

The advantage is that they don’t have to be creative to build a business. They just need some very large capital.

As a new online marketer, your investment is negligible in comparison.

Find a successful marketer who will mentor you and show you how their business works.

Then do what they are doing.

You don’t have to be aggressive in your marketing like Asa Candler.

You don’t have to buy into one of Ray Kroc’s franchises.

There are opportunities out there and you don’t even need to be creative to take advantage of them.

Let me know your thoughts.
